New Original Series of Monthly Prize Fights to Debut August 1 with Mexican Boxing’s Up-and-Coming Stars

Premiere’s Sponsors Include Verizon Wireless and Farmers Insurance

Atlanta, GA – July 27, 2009 – Bringing the best of Mexico’s up-and-coming boxing stars to U.S. television, MEXICANAL will launch its original series of prize fights, CUADRILÁTERO (“In the Ring”), on Saturday, August 1, 8 pm Pacific, 10 pm Central.

The first match-up, produced exclusively by MEXICANAL, will feature Juan Pablo “Torito” Contreras and Luis Ernesto “Lagrimita” Soto as they battle for the World Boxing Council’s Intercontinental Junior Lightweight Title. Contreras, who holds an undefeated record, is from San Luis Potosí; and Soto, known as “El Cañonero” (“The Gunboat”), comes from Mexico City.

“The August 1 match-up marks the launch of what will be an exclusive monthly series of MEXICANAL-produced boxing events,” said Maruchi Urquiaga, General Manager and Vice President of the network. “We look forward to sharing CUADRILÁTERO with our viewers, as this program will truly represent Mexico’s best talents in junior boxing.”

Urquiaga further explained that, with these events, “MEXICANAL will promote promising young boxing talents from all over the country, bringing them to the forefront of international competition.”

John Perez, MEXICANAL’s Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales, added: “Verizon Wireless and Farmers Insurance, who have long recognized the value of the Hispanic market, have joined MEXICANAL in sponsoring the spectacular premiere of CUADRILÁTERO, which promises to be an extraordinary battle for the Intercontinental Junior Lightweight Title.”

All fights shown in CUADRILÁTERO will be authorized and supervised by sanctioned Mexican boxing officials.
